Strain Wave Gearbox

Request an unbranded strain wave gearbox around your real load, motion, interface, environment, documentation, and supply-scope requirements. Final configuration and included items are confirmed for each RFQ after the application drawings and open engineering conditions have been reviewed.

Strain Wave Gearbox RFQ and Selection

A strain wave gearbox is a compact reduction stage based on a wave generator, flexible toothed element, and rigid circular spline. This page is an unbranded product-type RFQ entry, not a fixed model, stocked item, or claim of confirmed availability. RobotPiece uses the application, load case, interfaces, environment, documentation, and commercial request to clarify what configuration should be quoted.

Strain wave gearing names the operating principle. Requests for strain wave gear boxes, a strain wave drive, or a strain wave gear box can refer to different supply boundaries, ranging from a three-element component set to a housed, bearing-supported reduction unit. The drawing and included-items list must remove that ambiguity.

Strain Wave Gearbox Selection Requirements

Generic strain wave gearbox selection diagram; it is not a production drawing, test record, or validation report.

Begin with the function and operating cycle. Compare ratio, rated and transient torque, input speed, torsional stiffness, lost motion, transmission error, efficiency, allowable external loads, lubrication, duty cycle, and life objective. Provide normal operation, repeated transients, and credible abnormal events separately. A maximum value without its duration, frequency, boundary conditions, and acceptance method is not sufficient for responsible selection.

Clarify whether the request is for a component set, housed gear unit, or gearbox with an output bearing. Provide the motor shaft, wave-generator interface, flexspline and circular-spline mounting, output flange, bore, alignment datums, envelope, orientation, and joint loads.

Describe the motor, drive, feedback location, motion profile, reversal frequency, control bandwidth, brake behavior, and current or torque limits. These inputs influence how the mechanical transmission is sized and validated.

How to Specify A Strain Wave Gearbox

Submit a requirement drawing or marked interface sketch where possible. Separate required values from targets and open questions. Identify the drawing revision, units, coordinate convention, test condition, and which organization owns the surrounding mechanics, controls, installation, and final validation. If alternatives are acceptable, state which interfaces must remain unchanged and which design variables may be reviewed.

Engineering Reference

The following primary-source engineering material is useful for understanding the component principle and the kinds of parameters that need definition. It is background only; it does not establish the specification, availability, compatibility, or performance of a proposed RobotPiece configuration. Review the engineering reference.

Quotation Scope to Confirm

Possible scope items include: wave generator; flexible and circular spline elements; housing; output bearing; flange; lubricant; motor adapter; fasteners; drawings and inspection records. None is assumed to be included. The quotation should list every supplied item, quantity, interface, accessory, drawing, document, test, and packaging requirement. It should also identify customer-supplied items and the information still required before a firm configuration can be accepted.

Current specifications are confirmed per requirement. RobotPiece does not infer ratings, fit, life, accuracy, compatibility, or included items from a generic name or product-type image. Final construction, dimensions, connectors, finish, and appearance depend on the approved configuration and supply boundary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are strain wave gear boxes interchangeable by outer size?

No. Component geometry, mounting datums, ratio, torque ratings, bearing arrangement, lubrication, accuracy definitions, and drawing revisions must match the application.

Does a strain wave drive include an output bearing?

Not automatically. A component set, housed unit, and bearing-integrated gearbox have different supply boundaries. The quotation must identify the load-support arrangement.

Can RobotPiece confirm a strain wave gearbox from an image?

No. An image can help identify the general product family, but selection and quotation require the interface, operating conditions, scope, quantity, destination, and supporting drawings or data. Unknown values should be marked as open rather than guessed.

Image note: the cover is a conceptual product-type illustration, not a photograph of a confirmed model. Actual appearance, dimensions, connectors and supplied items must be confirmed in the quotation.
